Protein!!!

My protein powder arrived!!! Woohoo!

  1. I have a question, why so much protein? If we eat meat or other sources for protein. Is it necessary for losing weight?

  2. Hi there!
    Protein is necessary to build quality muscle, among other things. That said, the amount of protein I'm consuming is quite a bit more than the standard :-) I'm at 50% of my caloric intake from protein (30% carbs, 20% fat). The reason for this is to build and maintain lean muscle while I lean out (cut fat). It's part of my preparation for my first Figure competition.
    Apart from my current diet, my normal lifestyle has me receiving 33% of my daily calories from protein, 33% from carbs, 33% from fat. It's a balance of nutrition that worked for me in a big way... it's how I lost the weight, and how I've maintained that loss.
    Protein powder is by definition a supplement, so if you're getting enough protein from whole food sources, there's no need for you to supplement.

    I just stumbled on your blog today and I am so inspired by you. I too followed the EAT CLEAN DIET, but am far from looking as beautiful as you! You are where I want to be. I was 45 when I stared the Eat Clean Diet at 245. I am now 170. However, I fell off of the wagon and am trying to get back on. When I started the diet, I lost 40lbs very quickly then I tore my achilles tendon while riding on my CARVING TRIKE. I have to tell you that this is when it really kicked in that DIET was 80%. I made a committment to myself not to regain the 40. So I watched my diet carefully. Then I would do crunches by my bed (with my legs elevated) nightly. I started out being only able to do 10 on each side without thinking I was going to die. (smile) I stayed off of the scale and only measured my hips. (Those were the biggest things on me and my nemesis). That was in August of 2009. I am now up to 100 each side nightly. By January of 2010 I had gotten down to 170, and have been here ever since. Is there somewhere in your blog that says that excercises that you did at the beginning of your initial weight loss training, your fitday meals etc? I live in Plano, Texas and would love to hear from you if you can find the time.

    1. Hi Renee! Wow! Look how far you've come! Fantastic!! My original website, www.BillandChelle.com/fitness has my previous daily coolers listed (under Today's Cooler) and my maintenance coolers are the same as what I ate during my weight loss. Exercises - same exercises I did at the beginning, I do now (just stronger, lol). Best Wishes!
