Tis the Season...
This morning, post coffee (lol), we began re-arranging our living room to make room for our holiday tree. Snafu-galore. This house was not set up for actual living. Something we discovered last Christmas when we purchased the X-box Kinnect system. Really? Who thought a wall there was a good idea? And somebody tell me why the cable is there? Bill spent a fruitless 20 minutes trying to explain that all of this is why he needs that new 80 inch flatscreen. Nice try. No.
So... we moved bookcases, including the ill-fated half-case left over from Thanksgiving (loooong story), we moved the piano (Ariel and I, buff girls unite!), we moved the entry table. Three times. We moved the couches. Too many times to count. Oy.
I was more than willing to stick the star on the top of my Cal-Gym and call it done, but no one agreed. Except Tab... she sent me the funniest text... "Oh lat-pulldown, oh lat-pulldown, how lovely are your handles..." See? She gets it! Hahahah. My family did not. They were unamused. So back to moving furniture. Then we finally headed out for the tree. We pulled into the lot, tumbled out of the truck (all 6 of us), and into the rain. Rain. Really?
After much (not really, it was darn cold) debate, we bought our tree, brought it home and began "family time". And my husband immediately got sucked into 3 (count them, THREE) "emergency" business calls. Finally freed, he rejoined us and the tree went up. Then the lights and decorations. Then my star. And as per our twisted family tradition, that little bugger would NOT stay upright no matter what we did. We finally agreed that we would stand at an angle to view it and call it straight. Done. Yes, we are that wonkified. Even our star knows it.
As the kids went separate ways, Bill and I headed out to our patio and the awesome firepit. I (foolish me) quickly checked twitter. Then I (more foolishly) passed on to my beloved husband that @MusclePhone says Bisbing is winning round 2 and Mayhem Miller is gassed (UFC)... and was suddenly alone on the patio. "I totally forgot the fight was on tonight..." was all I heard. Damn You, Twitter! Lol.
All in all, it's a good Saturday night. Had a good day with the kids, even got to see my son for a bit before he headed to Houston for a job (synthetic turf and poured in place rubber safety surfacing - my husband's business), we raised the tree, trimmed it, had some family fun, and I'm now sitting beside a warm fire on a cold night. These are the times when I am reminded of how much I have, of how lucky/blessed I am. I am grateful.
Happy Saturday Night!
